Experiential learning at its best
The Role of the Most Trusted Advisor is a 4-step professional development program that delivers the processes and tools to guide your family business clients through the creation of a comprehensive exit strategy and succession plan to enable the transition of the social, intellectual and physical capital of the business.
This continuing education program is experiential in methodology and illustrates the issues facing a typical family business through the use of a video case study. Participants work together to move the family across The Line of Confidence to the Implementation Stage so they can build a structure that will enable the business to prosper under next generation leadership.
The Line of Confidence chart depicts how we guide families from the Inertia Stage, where they are unclear or unsure about what the future might hold, across the Line of Confidence to the Implementation Stage where they are informed and excited about what they can build together as a family.
We call the left side of the chart the Learning Phase.
The process is to move your clients out of the Inertia Stage and into the Information Stage by helping them build on the principles for a successful business and create greater opportunities.
In this phase of the program, you will:
- Develop a greater understanding of the importance of recognizing differing perspectives, identifying underlying issues and developing strategies to address these issues.
- Meet and assess a typical family business to identify the obstacles they face in transitioning the business.
- Discover a variety of concepts and tools that will not only help clarify the future direction of both the family and the business, but also identify the obstacles that will present roadblocks along the way.
So whether it's a little uncertainty, a deeper fear, or just plain old procrastination that stops them, you will be able to help them move forward with confidence.
The other side of the chart is called the Communication Phase.
Here you will review the steps to move your clients through the Initiation Stage so that they can refine their common interest and work together to remove the roadblocks to a successful transition.
- You will discover napkin tools that form the foundation of an organization's strategic direction and will work together to devise a plan for the continuity of the business.
- You will move your family business clients into the Implementation Stage by building structure within a Family Business Senate - a governance model designed to support the building of a legacy while meeting the objectives of the three areas of a family business.
- You will explore the process for implementing effective communication and conflict resolution methodologies, and examine the structure and benefits of outside advisory boards.
